Zain Evans, principal at Kliptown Secondary School in Eldorado Park, is beaming. With good reason too. The top Grade 12 learner for the class of 2016, hails from his school.
Indira Chimanlal (18) achieved a staggering six distinctions following the release of the 2016 matric results.
She says, “Hard work pays off and this is a perfect illustration of this. Many people believe that this cannot be achieved, but if you invest the time and the effort, anything is possible.”
Chimanlal is not alone, two other learners from the school, Eugene Chaphi (18) and Aldrin Anderson (18), also have reason to feel proud. Their dedication and commitment during the exams have paid off and they are now ready to reap the rewards.
The trio boast 13 A’s between them and achieved B’s in all other subjects.
Evans says, “We are very proud to have had them and all three learners will receive bursaries from the Gauteng City Region Academy.”
When asked what the secret to their success was, the trio are unanimous and cite hard work, dedication and focus as the reason for their achievements.
Belinda Adams, Head of Department in Life Orientation at Kliptown Secondary, says the supplementary classes held at the school were a major contributing factor as learners were able to revise material and apply this in the exams.
For Chaphi and Anderson, this achievement is unprecedented in their families and the two intend to pursue careers in Law and Accounting respectively, while Chimanlal will be studying towards a degree in Chemical Engineering.
It does not end there for Kliptown Secondary School – they have amassed another 15 distinctions in history under the tutelage of History educator Estherline Fleur.
These top learners will be honoured at the annual ‘Raise the Bar’ achievement awards on January 22 at the Crystal Church in Aeroton. Proceedings start at 9 am and residents are asked to come out in celebration of their achievements.
