Police are searching for a suspect linked to illegal firearms recovered at the Dube Men’s Hostel on Wednesday night.
Two AK47 automatic machine guns, a 9mm pistol and 151 rounds of ammunition were recovered during a joint operation by the Johannesburg Metro Police Department(JMPD) and various SAPS units.
JMPD spokesman Wayne Minnaar said police received a tip-off from residents following a murder of a security guard at Phefeni Train Station.
“The hostel room, where firearms and ammunition were discovered, was abandoned and no arrests were made.
“Anyone with information that can assist with the investigation is urged to come forward,” said Minnaar.
In a separate incident, a man was arrested at Ennerdale for possession of a stolen Golf GTi which was reportedly hijacked in the Eastern Cape.
