UPDATE: JMPD onsite to try disperse crowds in the most affected areas in Soweto

Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesman, Wayne Minnaar, says roads leading into Chris Hani, Elias Motsoaledi, Main Reef and Soweto Highway are starting clear-up and traffic moving moderately.
Minnaar said metro police officers are currently removing rocks and burning tyres.
“Officers are pushing rocks and burning tyres off the roads to make way for motorists. The protests, particularly in Soweto, started at 5 am this morning.
“We are managing traffic flow, though there is still congestion, some routes in other parts have been opened,” he said.
