Easy steps to apply for Liquor Licences:

With the festive season fast approaching, Langlaagte police and the Department of Community Safety, Gauteng Liquor Board and Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) by-laws department conducted a workshop for all licensed liquor traders and potential liquor traders.

The Department of Community Safety placed emphasis on responsible alcohol trading and the safety of the patrons in and around liquor outlets.

The Gauteng Liquor Board shared information about compliance in accordance with the liquor act (Gauteng Liquor Act, Act 2 of 2003). The JMPD by-laws department informed liquor traders about contraventions such as having shisanyamas on the pavements (council property) in front of their outlets.

The liquor traders committed themselves to safer and more responsible trade in liquor.

Easy steps to apply for Liquor Licences:

Application for a liquor licence in terms of Section 23, of the Gauteng Liquor Act 2 of 2003.

1. Consent letter from municipality:

Local authority approval on a relevant letterhead signed by a designated executing officer from the town planning department of the local municipality, not a ward councillor.

The approval can be in the zoning certificate, consent use or rezoning when the whole premise is for business. This is applicable in an application for taverns, pools, clubs, liquor store, and pub license.

4. Notice of application must include the following information:

5. Full names of applicant

6. Intended trading name

7. Identity number or registration number where an applicant is a

juristic person for example company or close co-operation

Type of licence applied for:

1. full address and location of the application

2. intended trading name of the business and the registration number

3. Identity number of applicant

4. Names and nature of educational institutions, names and distance to similar licenced premises and places of the worship with a radius of one kilometre from the premises.

5. Publish notice of intention to advertise in no less than two local newspapers circulating in the area in which the proposed premises are situated for example seven days prior to the lodgement date and affix the notice on the proposed times.

6. Lodge the application in duplicate with the Gauteng Liquor Board Regional office located at the District or Metropolitan Council is of jurisdiction on the first Friday of the month accompanied by the following information:

7. A detailed written motivation in support of the licence applied

8. A detailed written description of the premises to which the application relates together with colour photos of the exterior and internal features of the premises.

9. Proof of publication in the two local newspapers (original)

10. A certificate of suitability on the person.

11. Proof of affiliating to an association such as the Gauteng Liquor Traders Association (GLTA)

12. Proof of payment of the prescribed fee of the licence applied.

13. Clearance Certificate by SARS that the applicant complies with tax laws

14. Proof of lawful occupation (lease agreement or title deeds)
