Women march against femicide

Karabo Mokoena's mom speaks out

Following brutal deaths of women in the hands of their partners/ex partners and men particularly, in Soweto, women from all walks of Soweto gathered to stand up against and condemn the killing of women.

The march departed from Maponya Mall in Klipspruit marching to the Pimville Community Centre. It was indeed emotional as some survivors told their painful stories.

Karabo Mokoena’mother, Keabetswe ‘Lolo’ Mokoena was one of the guest speakers. It made so much sense because she knew exactly how it feels like to lose a daughter in a brutal way.

Speaking at the march Mokoena said that she is not only there for late daughter Karabo, but she is there for all the other women who were killed by men and to also support mothers of those who were killed.

“I felt Karabo’s death, I felt it from the moment my WhatsApp messages weren’t going through. I told my family that Karabo is dead and no one believed me,” said Mokoena.

“There will always be a sign that shows you that you are dating a monster, but because our kids will be in love at that moment, there is nothing you can tell them,” she added.
