Brotherhood celebrated through soccer

Soweto Gold Flava Yase Kasi kicks off on a high note in Soweto

Soccer fans, players and legends gathered at the Elkah Stadium in Rockville as the much anticipated Flava Yase Kasi Tournament kicked off on Saturday. The 6 aside tournament, hosted by Soweto Gold Superior Larger, saw the winning team walking away with R10 000.

Kasi Flava took the involvement of soccer legends such as Doctor Khumalo and Shakes Gwabeni to be a success. It reminded most about the street soccer games that are usually played in our townships.

Shakes Gwabeni said he has spotted a lot of talent that needs to be nurtured.

“There are good players in our townships, they just need our support and motivation. We need our professional teams to come and scout, because the fact that they are not being recognised, kills their spirit and makes them lose hope and thus they leave soccer,” said Gwabeni.

The tournament consisted of 20 teams, from Pimville, Dlamini, Meadowlands, Chiawelo, Phiri, Rockville and Molapo.
