UPDATE: Security guards’ murderers are still on the run

The two gunmen have not been apprehended by police, who are following up on leads into their cruel deaths.

Following the circulation of a picture of police arresting a man on social media, users of a number of  platforms have linked the man to the shooting death of two security guards. Gauteng police have come out strongly to deny that the arrest was related to the murders.

A picture of the arrest has been doing the rounds on social media, purporting to be that of the suspected murderers of the two security guards who were shot at close range in their work vehicle in Klipspruit Extension Two, Nancefield, last week Wednesday.

The entire incident was captured on a camera mounted on the inside of the security guards’ vehicle.

The Gauteng police spokesperson, captain Mavela Masondo dismissed the allegations and confirmed that the man pictured, was wanted on charges ranging from murder, attempted murder and hijacking in Honeydew and Mpumalanga.

He said, “We have noticed the information that is making the rounds on social media to say the suspect has been arrested, which is not true. The suspects are still at large. The suspect that is in that picture was arrested this morning for a different case. He was a wanted suspect for a case of murder, attempted murder as well as a hijacking.”

Masondo added, “There are leads but we are still appealing to members of the community to come forward with information or inform the nearest police station.”
