Pageants worldwide are known for their strict requirements regarding height and weight among other things, this one of a kind pageant crowned its first queen in Protea Glen Ext 16 last Saturday.
Miss Holy Bible 2018, a pageant aimed at encouraging young Christian girls between the ages of 12 and 19 to remain grounded in their beliefs.
“We don’t look at the beauty of the child, we don’t look at their weight or height. Our main focus is on whether the contestants know the word of God and they must understand the scriptures,” explained one of the judges, Nomthandazo Phaliso.

The contestant who displayed these qualities and was crowned Miss Holy Bible 2018 is 13-year-old Tondani Nemadevhele who was emotional about her win.
“I feel so happy and excited that I have pursued my dream of being a future model,” she said.
Tondani dreams of one day becoming a scientist and her proud mother, Precious Nemadevhele, said she always encourages her to go for her dreams.

“I am a teacher at home so she gets her strong beliefs from me. I am very happy she has won the pageant, it makes me feel like I am doing something right as a parent,” Precious elaborated.
The idea for the pageant came about as a result of seeing the social ills that continue to plague South Africa’s society such as teenage pregnancy, the blesser phenomenon and drug abuse according to, one of the organisers, Apostle Juliet Taunyana. The organisers hope to see the pageant grow bigger in the coming years.
“These girls are bringing something, we are tired of teen pregnancies, we are tired of [drugs]! We need to bring children something that will separate them from these things while they are still young,” concluded Taunyana.
