Sewage pipe bursts floods pensioners house in Meadowlands zone 3
Community members came and assisted the family even though some of their belongings were destroyed by the sewage water.
Dora Khembu is a pensioner who is living with her grandchildren in Meadowlands zone 3. The pensioner who was asleep when she was woken up by one of her grandchildren informing her about the sewage pipe that has bursted and flooded their house and yard.
Khembu was so surprised and had to walk in that water and try to assist her grandchild even though the water pressure was getting too high they had to try their best so that it doesn’t flood the whole house.
“This is not the first time I have to experience and deal with this and it seems like now I am going to have to deal with this situation and it is too much for as I am also getting old,” added Khembu.
Khembu said this is the second time they face this and every time they try to contact Joburg water they come the next day.
“About six houses get affected by this sewage pipe so we then have 2 ask someone to assist us and pay that person because the smell we can’t stand it,” said Khembu.

Khembu’ s grandchildren are worried about her because she is an elderly person and knowing that our elders get sick easily and since the incident she hasn’t been eating because the smell is unbearable for her.
When the main pipe has blocked six houses in the area get affected as the dirty water floods their houses.
Khembu added that even though the water has destroyed their belonging she is thankful that it happened during the day and that the children’s school books were not affected.
