For more than five years the community of Nkomo iya hlaba in Orlando East has been living with a shallow hole in their neighborhood.

It is alleged that it was left unattended after the community rejected the construction of a Muslim masjid that was supposed to take place. Since the project was stopped people who reside in the area fear that it has become a high crime area where stolen goods are hidden and serious crimes committed.

People use the place as a dumping site which is adding to the distress of residents because now they have to contend with both the physical danger and the health hazard.

People who live near the hole said they have lived in fear that their children might play and fall in the hole for years.
