Two men arrested on separate charges of rape in Freedom Park

Three girls between the ages of six and nine reported that they were allegedly raped by the 26-year-old suspect in Freedom Park.

Two men, aged 26 and 35 were arrested on separate charges of rape on Tuesday, October 1. According to the communications officer, Constable Roxanne Gibb – three girls between the ages of six and nine reported that they were raped by the 26-year-old suspect in Freedom Park.

Gibb said that according to the victims, the suspect told them not to tell their parents about the incident that occurred in his shack.

“The girls also said that the suspect promised to give each of them money. The mother of one of the girls, however, was fortunate enough to have been made aware of the incident by the aunt of one of the victims and reported the matter to the Eldorado Park SAPS,” said Gibb.

In another incident, a 24-year-old female was allegedly raped by her 35-year-old boyfriend in Freedom Park.
“The incident happened on Friday, September 27 at about 4 pm,” said Gibb.

“It is alleged that an argument broke out between the victim and the suspect when he accused her of having an affair and the altercation resulted in the victim being assaulted by the suspect. He has also been arrested,” she added.

Also in another incident which occurred on Monday, September 30, a 31-year-old female was raped by two men.

“The incident happened in Boundary Road, around 8 pm. The suspects allegedly pulled the victim into the bushes, pointed her with firearms and demanded money.

“It is alleged that the suspects took turns raping her after eventually finding the money which she had hidden. The victim was told to go home and not to look back but was fortunate enough to meet three other men who accompanied her to the police station to report the ordeal. She was able to describe the suspects,” said Gibb.

The communications officer said further explained that SAPS encourages all victims and witnesses of rape to report all incidents.

“This is not only for us to have a more meaningful fundamental existence as the police towards the delivery of our mandate of ensuring that people of South Africa are and feel safe.

The effortless assistance of fellow community members and citizens are commanded and highly appreciated as well as encouraged to continue striving to do their part to create a safer and crime-free South Africa,” Gibb concluded.
