Like all other sporting activities, karate lessons were stopped during level five of lockdown.
Sensei Mandla Nkonde who has been in the game since 1977 talks about how COVID -19 has affected Karatekas and how they plan on curbing the spread of the virus.
Like all other sporting activities, karate lessons were stopped during level five of lockdown, and ever since they have not started going back as they were still trying to adapt to the new normal and find a way to curb the spread of the virus.
Sensei Nkonde normally uses school classes to train as he does not have his own facility but due to the pandemic, he plans on using Mzimhlophe Park to train so that his karatekas can be able to maintain social distancing.

Nkonde and his Karatekas have not been training due to the pandemic but hope to start with training as of October 1. For him, it is important to excises as it helps boost the immune system.
He said Karatekas were supposed to go to Japan but due to the pandemic, they couldn’t.
For Nkonde it is important to learn Karate in this day and age as women and children need a strategy to defend themselves from rapists and abusers.
