Empress South Africa semi-finalists ask for community’s vote

Raeesah Adams makes Empress SA semi-finalist

Raeesah Adams from Westbury entered the Empress South Africa pageant which focuses on beauty, brains, and purpose. The pageant also aims to develop contestants with knowledge, guidance, counseling, support, mentoring, and training.

Adams who is currently 21 years of age explained by she entered the pageant: “I entered Empress South Africa because I wanted to prove that your circumstances does not define you nor does it define how big you can dream. Growing up I always wanted to do modeling, my idols are Lala and Tyra banks. I always said that that would be me one day and I want to have young ladies in coloured communities to see that there is more to life than dropping out of school depending on a man and also having kids. I want to teach young girls how to live and be independent and to strive for greatness.”

According to Adams, the pageant consists of three stages and she is currently in the semi-finals which is the second stage of the pageant.

“The title means that no matter where I come from if I put my mind to it, I can achieve anything, the sky is not the limit,” said Adams.

When it comes to community involvement, Adams added: “I am currently a drum majorette coach, I train high school girls from in and around the community as well as a primary school in the community. It’s my way of empowering girls through sports and recreation and allowing them to express themselves in a positive way also giving them a place to go to feel safe and keep them out of the streets. They also get to go around South Africa to compete which allows them to see new places and meet new people.”

The date for the finals of the pageant has yet to be confirmed due to Covid-19 restrictions.

“I stand for the people and the community. Doing the pageant is not just about me, it’s about empowering my people and creating a name for our communities. Votes will get me the public choice award which means automatic entrance into finals,” concluded Adams.
