Mandlakayise Zwane determined to become a rugby player
Mastering his soul at 15.
From Protea Glenridge Ext 16 Mandlakayise Zwane is not only focused on scoring tries for himself and his team and making it as a Rugby player, but he also wants to be a doctor.
The Grade 9 Learner from is focused; heeding and following his father’s advice about not being a couch potatoe, Zwane figured he should stay sharp and fit.
Zwane who started playing Rugby in Grade 1 said, “My father is like the strength behind my glory. After he told me to not be stuck on the couch as a young athlete, he bought me tights and I got up ever since.”
After playing his heart out one day, the coaches noticed him and offered him a bursary at the school he’s currently in.

Zwane said, “If I don’t push myself, who will?”
Having experienced resistance and negativity because of his focus and passion, Zwane said, “I have learned never to let people pull you down when they hate you. They only hate because they see something from you they don’t possess.”
The 15-year-old spoke about how one of Mandela’s quotes gets him going, the quote says, “I am the master of my fate and the captain of my soul.”
Zwane explained that quote from the former president of SA has kept him going and helped him control and harness his anger for the field.
The National Rugby Team for SA is known as The Springbok. The nickname and logo also date from the 1906–07 tour of Britain. The springbok was chosen to represent the team by tour captain Paul Roos in an attempt to prevent the British press from inventing their name. Zwane said, “If I don’t make it as SA’ Rugby captain, I can always fall back to being a doctor or something.”
