Gauteng Sasol league games suspended amid covid rise

The move comes after a spike in Covid cases as the country faces a third wave of the covid-19 pandemic.

Safa Gauteng has suspended all Gauteng Sasol league games until further notice. The move comes after a spike in Covid cases as the country faces a third wave of the covid-19 pandemic. Gauteng in particular has been the country’s epicentre, attributing for more than half of daily cases reported in recent days.

“The suspension of fixtures is effected in view of the rising numbers of covid 19 cases in the Gauteng province,” a SAFA statement circulated to Gauteng Sasol league teams read.

Teams though will find solace in the fact that training will still be allowed.

“We further appeal to clubs that will continue with their training sessions to follow strict covid 19 compliances,” SAFA added.

As the league comes to a halt, Croesus Ladies is undefeated with ten wins from ten games and sits at the top of the log. Wits University is proving to be a certified title contender at second place with only one loss.

Soweto’s Diepkloof Ladies has been the awkward dark horse of the league, sitting in third place as the second-highest scoring side in the log. Their neighbours and rivals, Soweto Fabulous will go back to the drawing board and assess their ambitions after a luke wark season that sees them slumping in in sixth place.
