Over 18s get their jabs in Pimville
In Soweto, ten vaccination sites are fully operational and in Pimville young people heeded the call to come out to the Grace Bible Church for a drive-thru vaccination.
In a bid to speed up the country’s highly criticised slow vaccination rollout, the South African Cabinet announced that as of Friday, August 20, people over the age of 18 would be eligible for a vaccination against the covid-19 Coronavirus.
In Soweto, ten vaccination sites are fully operational and in Pimville young people heeded the call to come out to the Grace Bible Church for a drive-thru vaccination.
Site Manager, Thandeka Lebutse said so far young people had shown optimism towards vaccination.

“Young people were very eager to come through, they started coming in as early Friday. We were impressed with the optimism they have shown towards vaccination.”
One of those young people was Kutlwano Selemane, who said she was happy that she had decided to get the first of the two-dose Pfizer vaccine jabs.
“It was a bit of a difficult decision to make but eventually I just decided to go ahead and do it. Besides a sore arm, I didn’t have any pain or anything and I don’t know anyone personally who has had problems,” the 23-year-old said.
Numbers are still expected to pick up at the Grace Bible Church and those who were not able to register online are allowed to register at the centre.
Other measures the country has utilised to boost the rollout include the opening of more centres and the administering of jabs even on the weekends.
Soweto’s vaccination sites are the grace Bible Church in Pimville, the Chiawelo Community Health Care Centre in Chiawelo. The Itireleng Community Healthcare Centre and Kopanong Community Centre in Dosbonville.
The Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital Recreational Centre and Diepkloof Community Hall in Deipkloof. The Makhaya Community Hall in Zondi. The Meadowlands Community Hall in Meadowlands. The Naledi Community Hall and Naledi Ext 2 Sports Centre in Naledi.
