Truck driver flees scene after fatal accident
40-year-old man dies after collusion.
On Tuesday morning a fatal accident occurred on the N12 Westbound just after Abu Baker Asvat Drive, towards Protea Glen, where a truck collided with a bus.
“It is alleged that both vehicles were travelling on the N12 westbound when the truck attempted to make a U-turn on the freeway after Abu Baker Asvat Drive crossing the centre island,” said Xolani Fihla, spokesperson for the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD).
“The bus then collided with the truck’s first trailer. The driver of the bus died on the scene and was taken to Diepkloof mortuary by Gauteng Pathology Services,” explained Fihla.

The deceased is believed to be in his 40s and he didn’t have passengers in his but when the accident occured. “The ER24 personnel arrived on the scene an hour after the incident and found both the truck and trailer blocking the two lanes and centre median. The bus driver was still trapped inside his vehicle. Medics assessed the man and found that he had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Nothing could be done to save him, therefore he was declared dead,” said Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson.
When officers arrived on scene the driver of the truck was nowhere to be found and it’s alleged that he fled the scene after the collision occurred. A case of culpable homicide and leaving an accident scene will be opened at Lenasia SAPS for further investigation.
