84 suspects arrested around Eldos at the end of July

According to Sergeant Roxanne Gibb, the arrests include offences such as rape, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless and negligent driving, possession of a jamming device.

Over the month-end weekend of the month of July, Eldorado Park SAPS collaborated with various Law Enforcement Agencies and as a result, secured the arrest of 84 suspects.

According to Sergeant Roxanne Gibb, the arrests include offences such as rape, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless and negligent driving, possession of a jamming device, armed robbery, house-breaking, theft robbery, interfering with police duties, dealing in liquor, failure to produce valid passports, malicious damage to property, possession of dagga and possession of drugs.

This was part of the provincial operation, O Kae Molao which was led by the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela.

As part of the operation, law enforcement officials conducted stop and searches throughout Saturday evening of July 30 and the early hours of Sunday morning July 31.

The stop and searches focused on the generators of crime, namely the unlawful possession of firearms, possession of drugs and a follow up on tip-offs received by residents.

Two illegal taverns that were operating without licences were shut down and a 19-year-old suspect was arrested for allegations of rape. Numerous illegal substances and dangerous weapons were seized, as well as two vehicles were impounded.

The suspects are expected to appear before the respective courts during the course of the week.
