On August 13, Die Boek Feetjie (DBF) Book Club will launch its second book club in Noordgesig.

“I’m so excited because my late mum and dad are originally from Noordgesig and we moved to Eldos when I was one year old. I always refer to Noordgesig as my hometown,” said Elie.

When asked about how she came about forming the children’s book club in Noordgesig, Elie explained: “I made my appearance on the tv show KLOP on Kyknet and Kie on June 13 and more people contacted me afterwards. My friend Sidney van Schalkwyk asked me if I would consider starting one there (in Noordgesig) and I didn’t hesitate.”

Elie shared that since starting the children’s book clubs, she’s seen a significant change in the children’s behaviour towards reading and their reading levels are better.

She also noticed more confidence when they talking about books and they are more open and excited to read aloud to the group.

“I believe that DBF book club for kids will grow tremendously because I’ve invited 10 other learners from our local schools to attend with the help of sponsors.

“I would like each child to have the experience and for them to acknowledge the importance of reading. Reading is the catalyst for positive change,” she concluded.
