25 years of The Lion King celebrated
The Grammy award-winning sensation will take to the stage and serenade the audience with a special 30 minute performance.
Celebrated South African producer, composer, and vocalist Lebohang Morake, better known as Lebo M is preparing for a special return to Broadway on the November 13, to mark the 25 anniversary of The Lion King.

The Grammy award-winning sensation will take to the stage and serenade the audience with a special 30 minute performance.
The Disney production, released in 1994, and its theatrical production which began three years following its success, has transcended through generations across the globe.
“Since Lebo M’s initial collaboration with German composer Hans Zimmer on the original soundtrack in 1994, the South African has helped the classic Disney story echo its timeless roar from screen to stage as the first black composer in history, whose compositions have come to life on Broadway for 25 years,” a statement read.

In 2007, Lebo M brought The Lion King theatrical production to SA shores, running the show as its first and only black producer during its 10th worldwide production, breaking records in an African high-end theatre that has hosted the likes of Phantom of the Opera and CATS.
Over the years the production has featured a large number of South African and African talent to perform around the world marking South Africa as having the longest working talent on Broadway in its history.
“The 25th anniversary of the production comes at a fitting time when Primedia recently announced its collaboration with Lebo M. to promote, develop, and push African content to the world, which is something that has always been close to Lebo M’s heart.”
The partnership, according to Morake, will “inspire a new generation of African musicians, dancers, actors and storytellers to share their creativity with the world and to explore the untapped potential on the continent.”
