Eric Mdluli fails to attend court
Eric Mdluli allegedly admitted to killing his grandson, the court due to his medical conditions presented by his lawyer, granted him bail last year December.
70-year-old Eric Mdluli who was arrested and released on bail for the murder of his grandson, Snethemba Mdluli (17), was absent on his third court appearance on Monday at Protea Magistrate’s Court.

The community of Dlamini and surrounding areas gathered to fight for Snethemba’s justice. High emotions played out as they were chanting songs of justice outside court.
Dumisani Dlamini leader of Inkaba Yami Ise Dlamini said, “We are here today to contest the decisions that were implemented as a resolution of a premeditated murder case of Snethemba inn which the court gave Eric a R3000 bail and for us it was like he was granted free bail.”

After Eric Mdluli allegedly admitted to killing his grandson, the court due to his medical conditions presented by his lawyer, granted him bail last year December.
He therefore failed to avail himself to court and the magistrate issued a warrant of arrest if he fails to attend again on the Friday February 17.
“I still feel like the system is failing us and they are buying time. They want to claim that he is sick but regardless of his health, he still managed to shoot my son,” said Portia Mdluli, mother of Snethemba.

“At least his family can see and take care of him, but I can’t protect mine because I don’t have access to him anymore. The magistrate must rethink his decision and grant my son the justice he deserves,” she continued.

Grandparents are supposed to nurture their grandchildren.
They become their safe space, in which their children confide in them and not the actual parents. However, what happens when your safe space claims your life with two-gun shots?

“We are looking at a premeditated murder but if the Protea court is failing us, we will take the matter to the high court.
“We cannot treat a murder case of a teenager like it’s a robbery case. We cannot allow Eric to walk scout free, justice needs to be served,” Dlamini explained.
Action SA’s Mpumi Edward said, “We know we cannot bring back Snethemba Mdluli but we are here to stand with the family during these trying times, to ensure that justice is served.”
Eric Mdluli will return to court again on February 17.
