Numerous residents and local entities have raised complaints about the bad stench coming from the vandalized business.
The community has been experiencing a bad stench for days, and they are worried about the situation since the cleaning process is taking long and the issue may lead to their health being in danger.
According to Ward 38 councillor, Phindile Simelane, the Dube butchery owner is refusing assistance from the councillor and Ward Committee Members. They tried giving him advice in terms of fast tracking the cleaning process but it looks as if the owner is not interested.
“I went with the inspectors at the butchery, we met the owner and tried to have a civil conversation with him regarding the cleaning of the butchery but the owner became rude towards us, instead of cooperating,” said Simelane.
On Monday, the employees at Dube butchery received a skip bin in order to start the cleaning process.
An employee at the Dube butchery who preferred to be kept anonymous said she tried calling the councillor and asked for help but failed.
The councillor apparently told her that due to the business being privately owned there was nothing she could do to help.
“We are not happy about how slow they are with the cleaning process; the smell is really bad.
“What frustrate me the most is that they have been making media announcements telling us that the butchery will be cleaned as soon as possible, but it has been weeks and we are still waiting,” said Sifiso Myeni a resident of Dube.
