According to Joburg Theatres, the collaboration with Kutlwano Masote is set to impart onto the Music Tutorial Programme skills and knowledge on creating new music through application of music theory and tonal harmonies.

Artistic Director of Joburg City Theatres, James Ngcobo said, “I sat in the rehearsal room witnessing this cohort of young people flipping their scripts, tuning their instruments and immersing themselves in the music.

“What Kutlwano Masote is doing with these young and enthusiastic musicians transcends the teaching or the mentoring. It is filled with buckets of generosity, sharing his passion and skill set, from note to note.”

Kutlwano who has been a professional classical music practitioner for over two decades, was born into a musical family in Soweto, beginning his violin lessons at an early age under the guidance of his father, Michael Masote, the founder of the Soweto Symphony Orchestra.

Masote said he feels that the workshop will offer support and resources to cultivate concepts in developing the MTP programme, whilst allowing creative risks.
