Accused of horrendous murder appears in court
Michael Moremi, accused of the brutal killing of Lebogang Sikwane, made his third appearance at the Orlando Magistrate’s Court.
After a dark and traumatising period, the family of Lebogang Sikwane and members of the community attended the Orlando Magistrate’s Court for the suspect’s third appearance on November 28.
This follows two previous appearances, during which the case was postponed as the accused sought legal assistance.
Sikwane was found murdered near a local school close to her home and the suspect’s residence after she had been missing for a day.

The family has requested privacy and time to grieve, saying they are not in the right headspace.
The court proceedings were postponed as the magistrate was ill and the recording machine was not functioning and is currently being repaired.

Community member Winnie Riba expressed her disappointment with how the case is being handled, saying: “We are not the law; however, this is the third appearance, and the third time we have come here with no way forward.”
“It is heartbreaking, especially for the family, because they have to go through such a process. I can only imagine how they are feeling.”
The next appearance is scheduled for December 4. The suspect remains in custody.
