Eldos couple in court for attempted murder, child abuse, justice obstruction
A four-year-old girl is fighting for her life in the ICU at Bara Hospital after she was allegedly assaulted and nearly drowned by her father.
A 32-year-old man from Eldorado Park Ext 1 is expected to appear before the Protea Magistrate’s Court today, August 8, for the alleged attempted murder of his four-year-old daughter.
According to provincial SAPS media liaison officer Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, police responded to a complaint that the father was physically abusing his child in Eldorado Park.
On arrival at the scene, officers were directed to a closed backyard shack. Upon entering, they found a man with his three-year-old son and four-year-old daughter.

“Police noticed that the girl, who was lying in bed, had head injuries, bruises, and a swollen eye.
“The man, who introduced himself as the father of the children, could not give a clear explanation of what happened to her,” Masondo said.
The police arrested the father and rushed the girl to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
He was later charged with attempted murder and child abuse.
Further investigation by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit led to the arrest of the victim’s mother, who was charged with defeating the ends of justice.
