One dead, two flee after shootout with JMPD officers in Selby
Gunfire erupted in Selby when three men opened fire on JMPD officers.
JMPD officers fatally wounded a man in a shootout on Booysens Road in Selby on Sunday evening.
The incident happened when officers from the JMPD’s Tactical Response Unit saw three men wearing dark clothing carrying side bags while walking on foot.
The officers followed them and tried to stop them by activating the patrol vehicle’s blue lights. Seeing the officers, the trio immediately opened fire on the car, with one round striking its rear left door.

The officers then left the vehicle and chased the trio on foot, repeatedly ordering them to stop. However, the men ignored the warnings and continued firing at the officers, leading to a return of fire.
During the exchange, one man was fatally shot and pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services. The other two fled and remain on the run.

The police recovered one revolver (a .38 special), five empty cartridges, four cellphones and a wallet and linked the recovered firearm to an earlier case in Klerksdorp.

The Johannesburg Central SAPS opened a case of attempted murder, and the police urge anyone with information about the whereabouts of the two men on the run to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
The police investigation is ongoing.
