Woman stabbed to death while on duty in Protea Glen

Urban News has learnt that the deceased was on duty at the time of the incident, and the stabbing occurred in view of several shoppers at a retail store.

Snenhlanhla Mathonsi (22) was stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend, Ayanda Kula, inside a Pick n Pay Supermarket in Protea Glen on May 4.

Urban News has learned that the deceased was on duty at the time of the incident, and the stabbing occurred in front of several shoppers at a retail store.

Johannesburg district corporate communications co-ordinator, Lieutenant Colonel Mpho Tshetlhlane, has confirmed the incident.

Tshetlhlane said the 26-year-old suspect has been arrested and will appear at the Protea Magistrate’s Court soon.

“The suspect allegedly arrived at the supermarket on Sunday at about 19:50 and stabbed the victim who was on duty.

“She sustained several stab wounds in the upper body. The police were alerted about the incident, and they swiftly reacted to the scene,” he said.

He further stated that the victim was certified dead at the scene.

“The motive behind the incident is not yet known. Police investigations continue,” said Tshetlhlane.

The Joburg District commissioner, Major General Nonhlanhla Kubheka, condemns incidents of GBV in all its forms.

She thanked police members for their prompt reaction and dedication to ensuring the safety and security of the community.
