Off-duty JMPD officer nabs house robbery suspect in Protea Glen

The arrested suspect and his two accomplices are believed to be linked to other cases of robbery in the area.

An off-duty JMPD officer responded to a disturbance at his residence in Protea Glen on May 26.

Upon investigation, the officer discovered that his neighbour had been a victim of a house robbery.

The victim reported being confronted by three unidentified men who forcibly entered her home, restrained her, and stole household appliances after pointing a firearm at her.

The suspects fled, and the officer gave chase. At the intersection of Impala Road, he spotted a vehicle matching the description given by the victim.

Three male suspects exited the vehicle.

The officer reported seeing what appeared to be a firearm on one of the suspects. Perceiving a direct threat, he discharged his service firearm.

One suspect was injured, while the other two fled on foot into nearby bushes and remain at large.

The suspects’ vehicle, a maroon Renault Clio, was abandoned at the scene.

A subsequent investigation revealed it had been reported stolen earlier that day.

The vehicle was seized and booked at the SAPS Lenasia vehicle pound for verification.

Stolen household appliances, including televisions, game consoles, and cellphones, were recovered.

The injured suspect was taken to hospital under police guard for medical treatment.

Cases of house robbery, possession of stolen property, and possession of a stolen vehicle have been opened at the Protea Glen SAPS for investigation.
