Firearms stolen in Lenasia house robbery recovered; one suspect arrested

After a house robbery in Lenasia, police recovered stolen weapons and arrested a 42-year-old suspect at Vegie Land informal settlement.

Members of the Lenasia Task Team apprehended a 42-year-old man at the Vegie Land informal settlement in Lenasia, whom they found with an unlicensed pistol loaded with seven live rounds and the serial number filed off.

This followed a police investigation into a house robbery on July 8 at Lenasia Ext 11, where four unknown armed robbers broke into a home and stole four licensed firearms, cash and jewellery before fleeing.

On July 11, the police, acting on intelligence about the whereabouts of one of the criminals, police searched the Vegie Land informal settlement in Lenasia, recovering two rifles, a shotgun and various ammunition, all stolen during the July 8 house robbery.

In a separate, intensive investigation on July 12 at the N Section in Thembelihle, the police recovered three firearms, a magazine and 10 rounds of ammunition.

The 42-year-old arrested at Vegie Land will soon appear in the Lenasia Magistrate’s Court, while the other two criminals remain at large. Police investigations are ongoing.
