Man kidnapped and assaulted over R200 debt in Meadowlands

The man was reportedly beaten and threatened after being dragged from his home by three suspects demanding repayment of a small loan and whisky.

Soweto Police are investigating a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and kidnapping after an incident that took place in Meadowlands Zone 5 on October 26.

According to reports, the complainant was asleep in his home when he heard a knock on his door. The person identified himself as someone sent by a man known to the victim.

When the complainant told them he was sleeping, the suspects allegedly kicked the door open and demanded to see the victim.

The victim was forced to open the door. He was then dragged to a silver-grey Ford Figo by three men, one of whom was known to him, and driven to a house in Meadowlands Zone 7.

It was reported that one suspect allegedly assaulted the victim while another held him down, demanding that he repay the R200 he had borrowed along with R900 in interest and a bottle of whisky by November 1.

He was then further assaulted by all three suspects. One of them attempted to pull his trousers down and threatened to rape him, but he managed to fight back.

The victim was later abandoned in an open space in Zone 7. Police have launched an investigation and one suspect has been identified.
