Soweto kidnapping gang busted: Victim rescued, seven suspects arrested
Officers recovered replica firearms, police gear, and impounded two vehicles linked to the crime. The suspects face multiple charges, including kidnapping and impersonating police officers.
The Soweto Flying Squad was patrolling when two suspicious vehicles, a black Ford Fiesta with a false number plate and a bronze Toyota Etios with eight occupants, were spotted on May 28.
The vehicles were stopped and searched with the assistance of the Tactical Response Team.
Two 9mm replica firearms with live ammunition were recovered, along with a police docket cover, police cap, and police bulletproof vest.

Preliminary investigation revealed that one of the occupants, a woman, had been hijacked and kidnapped by the same group. She was rescued, and the other seven occupants were arrested.
The suspects face charges, including kidnapping, possession of unlicensed firearms, and impersonating a police officer.
Both vehicles were impounded and taken into police custody for further investigation.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
