Over 560 arrests made during festive season
The Safer Festive Season operations were implemented to ensure the safety and security of the community of Johannesburg.
Major General Nonhlanhla Kubheka, the Johannesburg District Commissioner, applauded members and other law enforcement agencies for the successful arrests of various crimes.
Over 560 suspects were arrested for various crimes during the Safer Festive Season operations that were aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the community of Johannesburg. The operations were held throughout the district from December 30 to January 4.
The police joined other law enforcement agencies and apprehended about 250 suspects for various crimes during the Safer Festive Season and high-density operations, which were held around 40 different policing precincts.

These operations included Safer festive season high-density operation, station commander’s operations, illicit mining operation, and ad hoc roadblock.
Forty of the arrested suspects were apprehended on January 3 in Sophiatown, and another 26 suspects were also arrested for various crimes during policing and station commanders’ operations conducted by different stations across the district. Eighteen were arrested for driving under the influence of liquor.
During the illicit mining operation held around the Roodepoort policing precinct, seven suspects were arrested, three for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and four illegal immigrants. Illegal mining tools that include six pendukas and one stamper pot were also confiscated.

The district detectives also traced and arrested about 358 suspects for different crimes that include contact crime, contact-related crimes, property crime, and other related crimes.
Some of the arrested suspects will appear at various magistrates’ courts.
