City Power warns of fraudulent tender emails targeting businesses

The power utility urges service providers and residents to remain vigilant as scammers impersonate officials in a fake air conditioning tender communication.

City Power (CP) has issued a warning to service providers and businesses about a fraudulent tender communication circulating in the community.

The power utility said scammers are impersonating officials and sending emails that appear legitimate, instructing recipients to urgently contact a private cellphone number regarding a tender for the supply, installation and maintenance of air conditioning units.

CP spokesperson Isaac Mangena said the communication is fake and does not form part of any official procurement process.

Mangena explained that the perpetrators are using what looks like official email formatting to create urgency and mislead service providers into engaging outside formal channels.

He added that no City Power official would request stakeholders to respond via private cellphone numbers for tender-related matters.

Residents and businesses are urged not to respond to such emails, avoid sharing personal or company information, and treat any suspicious communication as potential fraud.

All legitimate tender enquiries should be directed through the official Tender Advice Centre, while suspected fraud can be reported to City Power’s Security Risk Management Control Room.
