Eldorado Park police and Gauteng Traffic Wardens (GTW) arrested an alleged suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Dartmoore Street, towards Buckingham Road in EXT 7, Eldorado Park, on September 28.

According to Sergeant Fezeka Khobo, Eldorado Park SAPS media liaison officer, police received crime intelligence-driven information about an African male in possession of an unlicensed firearm and drugs in the Eldorado Park area.

When police spotted a person matching the description in EXT 7, he attempted to flee after seeing the police vehicle. Crime prevention and GTW members chased him down and apprehended him.

Police found one silver 9mm pistol on his right waist, as well as live ammunition on the left side of his trousers and a packet of drugs.

“The suspect was informed of his rights in terms of the Constitution and was placed under arrest for possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition, as well as drugs,” said Khobo.

“He has been detained at Eldorado Park SAPS cells for further police investigation and will appear in court soon.”

Eldorado Park SAPS management commended the members for their response and continues to urge the community to report illegal firearms.
