New pool for Jabulani Safe-Hub

The community of Jabulani can now experience aquatic excellence after the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) completed a new swimming pool in the area.

The highly anticipated Olympic size community swimming pool will form part of the Jabulani SAFA Safe-Hub.

The state-of-the-art Jabulani Safe-Hub element of the facility was launched in September last year and the facility boasts a multitude of features for young people access services and opportunities.

This support occurs through sports, arts and culture-based programmes that focus on personal development, health, safety, education, accredited training, employability and local economic development.

The JDA CEO, Mokgema Mongane said, “The completion of the Jabulani Safe-Hub Olympic sized swimming pool is another example of how JDA’s work responds to the GDS 2040 ideals of resilience, livability, and sustainability. This facility stands as a symbol of progress, collaboration, and the city’s commitment to providing exceptional recreational opportunities for all.”

The Jabulani Safe-Hub also has a full-size artificial soccer pitch, outdoor courts, a gym facility, a play area, a multipurpose hall with basketball courts and changing rooms.

The building consists of internal and external entertaining spaces, a kitchen and coffee bar, workshops, computer/IT rooms, a training centre and other amenities including a library, counselling facilities, offices and meeting rooms.

“Attendance data at the Jabulani Safe Hub reveals that the facility recently received an impressive 10 000 visitors over a 30-day period. .

“With the swimming pool element now at practical completion, this number looks set to increase as the facility continues to contribute to the well-being of residents.”

Some of the key features of the community swimming pool include, advanced safety systems such as lifeguard stations and an advanced water filtration system to ensure a clean and hygienic swimming environment. It also has accessible entry points, ramps, and specialized equipment to cater for individuals with disabilities.
