Local Sorbet-Preneur winner receives her own store

Sharon Dikgale moved from being an employee to officially being a Sorbet franchise partner.

It’s been four months since Dikgale was crowned as a Sorbet-Preneur winner along with the other three ladies.

However, this month she celebrates a moment of total victory and dedication as a remarkable woman, wife and mother of two.

“It feels like I have been microwaved to get where I am today. But it was an intense journey which allowed me to learn everything it took to being the owner.

“I learned everything about Sorbet, the marketing as well as the HR side,” said Dikgale.

South Africa is approaching 30 years of democracy and these are the types of initiatives that keep making it easy for women to believe in their roles and existence in this country.

Dikgale said, “Being a South African woman today means I have the voice, a voice to raise my issues and also to belong to a society that accepts me and to have equality with my counterparts.

“It’s about being given the platform to practice my role in my society. It is amazing being in this country and able to do all of that.”

Today, women can advance in any sector, study in a place and field of their choice. They enjoy the fundamental rights and freedoms that their grandmothers and great-grandmothers were denied.

Dikgale has been with the Sorbet family for over 18 years as a beauty therapist moving from one franchise to another including the L’Corro store, where today she comes back as an employer.

She shares her sentiments as a leader and what was her learning curve. “A huge learning curve has to be that I have taken up something big and it is no longer about coming to work and doing what I need to do. Now, I am in charge of people’s lives and livelihood, it is no longer just about me,” she explained.

It is amazing how women today are backing each other and standing together to make sure that one’s dream is brought to reality.

This is exactly what Hannah Sadiki, CEO of Bidvest bank and Linda Sinclair, CEO of Sorbet are doing for these four ladies.

Sinclair explained, “As her Sorbet franchise partner, it is important that we look to create an opportunity for women in an industry that is for and owned by women, to allow black women of South Africa to really reach their dreams and to change their lives.”

Dikgale concluded by speaking about the importance of sending the elevator down to her team. “I want to harness growth amongst the girls because I also want one or two that come out of my store to do exactly what I am doing.”
