Bogus doctor arrested at Bara

The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) has issued a warning to residents to not fall prey to bogus medical practitioners.

The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) has issued a warning to residents to not fall prey to bogus medical practitioners.

The Department also warns of healthcare practitioners who try to solicit bribes from residents before they can offer their services at public health institutions.

This comes after an individual impersonating a doctor was arrested this past weekend at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital.

She was arrested after she allegedly demanded a R700 bribe from a patient before she could offer her assistance.

According to a report by GDoH, the bogus doctor asked the patient escort to meet her at the pedestrian gate where the bribe was to be paid.

“The escort notified the security personnel who eventually apprehended the bogus doctor at the hospital’s pedestrian gate.

“When asked to produce her Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) registration number and a persal number by the security and facility management, the bogus doctor was unable to do so,” said GDoH in a statement.

A case has since been opened against the bogus doctor at the Diepkloof Police Station and she is due to appear at the Orlando Magistrate’s Court.
