Founder of NOSH Food Rescue, Hanneke Vanlinge said, “South Africa throws away 10.6 million tons of produce while half of our population does not know where their next meal will come from.”
She went on to say that it is important to host such an event on Heritage Day because a lot of the food they receive would be used to cook traditional dishes.
Foods such as chakalaka, spinach and steamed bread were served as part of celebrating various African cultures and Heritage Day.
Young girls also danced and the band called Six Mabone played and sang for the tourists.

“When Hanneke contacted me and told me about the whole concept of the food rescue, I was excited because I am all about creativity and also giving back to the community,” said Olivia Clunie, volunteer head chef.

One of the tourists, Amanda Azmi from Malaysia said she enjoyed the food.
