Local senior citizens enjoy fun-filled celebration
Relive the joy and laughter of Sekgome Resort's Senior Citizen Celebration, where seniors from Ennadale, Eldorado Park, Westbury, and Kliptown came together.
It was a bright and beautiful day at Sekgome Resort in Doornkuil Sweet Water, Orange Farm, as senior citizens from across Gauteng gathered to celebrate Older Persons Month on October 12.
The third annual Sekgome Resort Senior Citizen Celebration was a resounding success, filling the air with laughter, camaraderie, and joy.
Under the warm sunshine, elderly men and women from Ennadale, Eldorado Park, Westbury, Kliptown and other parts converged on the picturesque resort, eager to spend a day of leisure and entertainment.

The day began with a hearty breakfast, providing an opportunity for old friends to reconnect and new friendships to blossom.

As the morning unfolded, the seniors engaged in an array of activities tailored to suit their interests including card games, a magician’s performance and free massages.
The resort’s swimming pool proved a popular attraction, with many taking a refreshing dip to beat the sun.
Event organiser and member of Come Back Mission Ruby van Staden from Eldorado Park said it was wonderful to see our seniors thriving in a safe and enjoyable environment.
“Today is all about celebrating their lives, experiences, and contributions,” noted van Staden.
She said most elderly people spend time indoors because there is no safe space for them, they are confronted by criminality in communities riddled with gun violence.
“We cannot sit like this in Eldos because of drive-by shootings but when we can out here our seniors get to relax and enjoy themselves.”

Lulama’s Beauty Spa treated the elderly to free massages, bringing tears of joy to one recipient.
“I believe that when we help our seniors we are attracting good luck.
I was touched when one of them cried and it shows that we heal people. It makes me happy because nobody wants to see other people suffer while they know where to touch or have a solution.”
Yolanda Duze, the event host from Sekgome Resort, emphasized their passion for supporting the elderly.
“We wanted to create a safe and elderly-friendly environment, as many venues don’t cater to their economic needs, given that most rely on SASSA grants.”
Duze expressed pride in the event’s growth over three years, saying, they hope to one day invite and accommodate all senior citizens from surrounding old age homes and clubs.
As the day closed, the senior citizens reluctantly bid farewell to their new friends.
Though the celebration may have ended, the memories and sense of community forged will linger on.
