Uber gives back to gogos by showing them the hidden gems of South Africa

This was all in the aim of giving back to the gogos while showing the beauty of Mzansi.

Uber hosted a screening showcasing South Africa’s hidden gems, seen through the lenses of our nation’s greatest treasures, our gogos, at Egrek Cinema in Parkhurst on October 17.

This was to showcase the breathtaking South African landscapes, featuring adventures with some of South Africa’s most beloved personalities and their grandmothers.

“Uber’s mission goes beyond simply offering rides, it’s about connecting people to opportunities and experiences.

“We want every individual South African, every community and every visitor to experience the true wonders of this country, just as we’ve done with our gogos,’’ said Cassie Jaganyi, head of communications at Uber.

Chairperson of the Gauteng Tourism Board, Judi Nwokedi said, “I have to say that Uber has revolutionised tourism globally because it offers you instant mobility.

“I am glad that the ‘glammys’ have gotten a chance to see the beautiful landscape of South Africa. What this campaign has done as well is to promote domestic tourism and this is a powerful addition as we showcase our ‘backyards’.”

She also went to mention how important it is to include the grandfathers, showcasing to young boys the power of love for another man.

Dudu Makhanye, grandmother of Lasizwe Dambuza, spoke about her experience and how she felt.

“My grandchildren told me that they had a surprise for me and I had to sleep over Lasizwe’s place.

“We woke up at around 03:00 and had a long drive. We got to the location and I saw that it was a hot air balloon. Getting in was a mission but I enjoyed every minute of it. It was scary but worth it,” said Makhanye.

Well-known content creator Grace Mondlana said she has never seen her grandmother so excited. “Koko was so excited and I could see it right through her face. Funny enough, I was more nervous than she was and she speaks about the experience every day and for that, I would like to thank Uber.”

Video clips of the experiences the gogos had were played for the audience.

The premier event was a celebration of adventure, heritage and connection and it left the viewers inspired to explore Mzansi’s hidden gems.
