“I am doing this for everyone who’s been in my situation to show that beauty comes from within,” Gouws said.

With the support of her family, Shantal Ogle from the Lovechild Media Foundation, and the NPO Ladies of Hope, Gouws has transformed her struggles into strengths.

She now dedicates time to community service, helping elderly folk and supporting anti-bullying initiatives.

“Caydon’s story inspires hope and courage in the face of adversity. We are grateful for the support system that helped our daughter overcome bullying,” said her mother.

She said participating in the Face of Gauteng High Schools has been a transformative experience for her daughter, profoundly impacting her personal and emotional growth.

“The competition boosted her confidence and self-esteem, empowering her to embrace her uniqueness and celebrate her strengths.

“It also inspired her to help others, fostering a sense of purpose and passion for making a difference in her community.”

Most importantly, Gouws discovered that true success lies in personal growth, realising the journey itself – not just the outcome – is the greatest reward.

“Through valuable lessons, networking opportunities and skills development, the Face of Gauteng High Schools has equipped me with the tools to become a confident, compassionate and driven individual, poised to make a lasting impact.”

Her passion for law and medicine drives her to make a difference.

“I want to fight against bullying and ensure no parent goes to bed with tears because their child is being bullied,” she said.

As a semi-finalist, Gouws’ confidence has soared.

“The Face of Gauteng High Schools has shown me that the impossible is possible. Success is not just about winning but personal growth and lessons learnt.”
