Global Hand Washing Day celebrated at Maponya Mall
The visit aimed to teach locals why washing their hands is important.
Continuing its celebration of Global Hand Washing Day (October 15), Lifebuoy visited the Maponya Mall with the innovative AI-driven Hippo Teacher to interact with the community.
Hlubi the Happy Handwashing Hippo (HHH) led the activities, teaching children and families about the importance of hand hygiene.
Anele Nzimande-Maphanga, the PR lead for beauty and wellness at Unilever Southern Africa, said Lifebuoy is all about championing safe and healthy washing habits.

“We started Global Handwashing Day in 2008, and the point remains teaching people about the correct and safe ways to wash their hands, including things like counting for 20 seconds and rubbing your palms and the back of your hands,” said Nzimande-Maphanga.
She added that Unilever wants to continue with the norms of Covid-19 – regularly washing hands.
Hlubi the HHH guided the children through fun and immersive activities like dancing and games, and Lifebuoy’s content creator partners, Bontle Modiselle and Lindo Sithole, taught them the choreography for Lifebuoy’s Happy Hands song.
“We tend to overlook the importance of washing our hands, especially now that Covid-19 is over.
“The key messages of keeping hands clean and good hygiene should not stop, which is what the campaign is about.
