Miss Soweto finalist hosts awareness campaign at local school
The awareness campaign taught the learners about teenage pregnancy and land pollution.
Onthatile Mohuba, a Miss Soweto top 20 finalist, held an awareness campaign at Emshukantambo Secondary School on November 8.
The main topics discussed were teenage pregnancy and land pollution. Two candidates from Level Up’s Maponya Community Hub spoke to the learners.

The speakers engaged the learners on teenage pregnancy and how to avoid it by practising safe sex by using protection. There was a Q&A session.
Aphelele Mudau, a Grade Eight learner, said, “I have learnt a lot. I learnt that we must protect our bodies by using protection if we are sexually active and the impact littering has on the planet because the weather is hot, but the next minute, it is raining.”

She said she was glad they had someone young to speak to them about sex.
The learners also learnt that land pollution negatively affects the climate, contributing to climate change.
Ntokozo Maseko from Level Up said she saw it fit to speak about land pollution because it plays a crucial role on the planet, but people do not take it seriously.

“Land pollution is becoming a serious issue, and we overlook it, thinking it does not have such a huge impact.
“Something as small as throwing a piece of paper on the floor contributes to many factors like climate change, so we must raise awareness,” said Maseko.
