Local actor wants to uplift the youth through performing art
Magavu’s passion for performing art has inspired him to mentor young people interested in acting.
Seen in numerous films in Mzansi Bioskop and Mzansi Wethu, local talented actor Mthembisi Magavu celebrates winning the hearts of Mzansi people.
The 42-year-old has portrayed outstanding performances in numerous films such as The Sugar Daddy, a movie that was released in 2012.
uNosala a film in Mzansi Magic, Icala lami, Tango, Izakhamuzi, Grade 13 and Kumnyama where he played the role of Dudu the prophet, a character that greatly improved his career recognition.

Soweto-based actor Magavu has humble beginnings in the small Eastern Cape town of Ngqaleni, where he was born and raised.
His unwavering passion for acting has propelled him to success.
Currently residing in Motsaledi, Soweto, Magavu continues to pursue his dreams of making a name for himself in the world of acting.
In 2004, he embarked on his artistic journey as a member of UCULSO, a performing arts group at Walter Sisulu University, where he nurtured his passion for various art forms, including drama, dance poetry and music.
‘’While I was pursuing my BCom degree at Walter Sisulu University, I joined a campus theatre group to participate in something entertaining rather than only concentrating on studying.
“During that period of acting, I would have fun and enjoy myself. I would usually surprise myself because, despite having no acting experience, I would frequently stand out and be identified as the group’s best actor. That encouraged me to pursue acting,’’ said Magavu.

He stated that his passion for performing art has inspired him to mentor young people interested in acting, which has led him previously to teach theatre lessons in Mthatha.
“My acting career has motivated me to contribute positively to the community. I want to spend the rest of my life using my talent to help young people in this country.
“While I hope to see myself on big screens and in major productions, I primarily want my talent to help many young people,” he said.
The MAMA Awards recognised the local actor as the 2024 best actor.
