Vuma Golf Clinics visits Soweto
The Vuma Golf Clinic launched in 2021 in partnership with fibre network operator Vuma.
The Vuma Golf Clinic (VGC) visited the heart of Soweto, Pimville, at the Soweto Country Club on February 11.
They hosted one of their clinics for the next major champions. The club was filled with excited children keen to learn or sharpen their skills.
This initiative aims to discover and assist talented young players who aspire to pursue golf as a profession but face barriers like resources.

Professional golfer and coach Nico van Rensburg said they had travelled all of SA to open doors for young aspiring golfers.

‘’It is expensive to get a coach, and not all parents can afford that. That is why there is coaching online.
“The children take videos of themselves playing, send them to the coaches and receive feedback on what to work on. They also receive data, making it easier for them.”
He said with the new and fixed golf course in Soweto, they could create champions much cheaper and that there is a lot of talent, but they need more practice.

Van Rensburg showed the children some practical techniques along with professional golfers Janike van der Merwe and Marcel Steyn Scholtz.

“These clinics will help us be exposed to golf, especially because it is not that well-known. We have future Tiger Woods here and will be behind them all the way,”

said Solly Oliphant, the coach of VGC.
He told the Urban News that funding is needed to help sharpen these children’s skills.
About 50 children attended and were put into various groups with coaches for coaching sessions. Videos were also captured.
