JMPD Welcomes sentencing in brutal murder of officer Neo Sepuru.

The JMPD welcomed the sentencing of four of the five suspects who were found guilty of the murder of officer Neo Sepuru.

One accused remains at large.

Officer Neo Sepuru (26) was killed on March 31, 2021.

He was driving his private car after returning from a departmental soccer match when he was hijacked outside his home in Dube village, Soweto.

The perpetrators took Sepuru to Jabulani Hostel where they undressed him and shot him.

Sepuru sustained fatal wounds to his upper body.

The successful prosecution revealed that four of the accused were charged with seven counts of robbery with aggravated circumstances, five counts of robbery, five counts of kidnapping and two counts of murder stemming from multiple cases.

The accused were handed a seven-life sentence and over 400 years of conviction combined.

According to JMPD chief of police Patrick Jaca, the sentencing sends a clear message that violence against officers and the community will not be tolerated.

“While this verdict cannot bring Sepuru back we hope it offers some measure of peace to his family and serves as a strong deterrent to those who would harm our dedicated officers and the public at large.”
