Soweto school gets new kitchen thanks to Vulcan Catering & Partners
This initiative aims to enhance nutrition and learning for students, addressing critical needs in the community.
Following their successful donation to the school in 2023, which was two Grade R classrooms and a playground area, Vulcan Catering Equipment once again partnered with Bidvest Afcom, G. Fox, Matus and Asquared, to donate kitchen equipment to Winnie Ngwekazi Primary School.
The donation was officially handed over to the school during the grand launch on June 13 at Pimville Zone 1, Soweto.
This act of generosity brought together different stakeholders, the Pimville community and Winnie Ngwekazi learners who expressed gratitude for the amazing project through different entertainment performances.

The new equipment included a serving hatch, food warmers, fridges and a total of 600 plates and spoons.
According to managing director at Bidvest Afcom, Danny Poovan, after an extreme makeover initiative was conducted, they noticed that the school management took the learners’ nutritional requirements seriously.
“We were touched by four women who were cooking in a dark classroom with burners and no extraction. At that point we decided that our next project will be this kitchen,” he said.
Corporate chef from Vulcan Catering Equipment, Fungai Muzorewa, who prepared food for learners in the new kitchen, said, “In order to give good quality food you must have good quality equipment.

Through this initiative we hope that that the learners will get nutritional value as we know that the economy is bad. Some come to school without food.
“This an opportunity for kids to get fed, be able to concentrate in class and look forward to come to school.” He further mentioned how much this project means to him as he believes in acts of service and giving back.

Principal of the school, Mathews Tshwari Kgatla, extended his sincere appreciation.

“We normally get promises from different sponsors but they never fulfil their promises. I am grateful to all the stakeholders involved in this project. Their dedication to supporting our school means a lot to us.”
He also stated that after the first project of Grade R classrooms their roll for the grade increased by 50%.
