Pimville learners benefit from food drive at local school

Dozens of learners at Thaba Jabula Secondary School received food parcels, thanks to the efforts of Pimville’s foodbank and retail giant Shoprite.

The Pimville Community Aid Foodbank (PICAF) visited Thaba Jabula Secondary School (TJSS) in Pimville to donate food parcels, with support from Shoprite, on June 17.

The PICAF addresses the community’s shortage of basic needs, ensuring that no one goes to bed hungry.

Founder Sibongile Nkambule said her research revealed that many households were child-headed and often faced food insecurity, inspiring the creation of the food bank.

“Believe it or not, we still live in a world where some households lack basic needs such as food.

“That motivated me and my team to take a stand. It may not solve the problem entirely, but it will help in some parts. Hopefully, one day, we’ll secure sponsors to expand our impact,” Nkambule explained.

TJSS deputy principal Elliot Banda expressed gratitude, saying he supported the initiative from the start.

“As a school, many of our learners are destitute, and we need all the help we can get to ensure they go to bed fed and come to school ready to learn.

Organisations like the PICAF are essential; they make a huge difference. On behalf of the school, we accept this support with open hearts and say ‘thank you’,” Banda said.

The learners received the food parcels and showed their appreciation to the food bank.
