Diepkloof senior citizens honour Women’s Day with celebration

The Ikotlolleng Senior Citizens’ Club in Diepkloof celebrated Women’s Day with a community gathering, honouring women’s contributions and legacy.

Since 2008, the Ikotlolleng Senior Citizens’ Club has empowered the elderly through various activities, including gardening, knitting and daily exercise to keep them strong and healthy.

In commemoration of Women’s Day, the club gathered at the Diepkloof Community Hall on August 8.

There, they honoured and celebrated the contributions of over 20 000 fearless women who marched to the Union Buildings in 1956, fighting for women’s rights.

“They stood not just for themselves but for the soul of this nation. Let us carry their fire forward.”

The deputy chairperson of the club, Sanah Mokgotsi, said she was happy to see all the women gathered and being celebrated for their strength.

“I will forever be proud of being a South African woman who also contributed to the freedom of this country. I thank all the women here today for the unity and love we continue to share amongst each other, not only on this day but daily.”
