Minister Gwarube warns that law enforcement will act against disruptions in schools
This comes after Operation Dudula campaigned in schools in Soweto, demanding that South African be prioritised over foreign nationals.
The Minister of Basic Education, Siviwe Gwarube, warned against school disruptions in Soweto.
She sent a stern message that law enforcement agencies will act against individuals or groups attempting to disrupt schools.
This comes after Operation Dudula visited schools in Soweto on September 22, where learners requested that South Africans receive priority over foreign nationals.

The group also left letters demanding that undocumented foreign learners not be accepted or registered for the 2026 academic year.
The movement, which in recent weeks has staged demonstrations at public healthcare facilities, shifted to education.
“Law enforcement agencies will have to act on lawbreakers who disrupt teaching and learning. The Constitution obliges the government to provide education for all children regardless of their status,’’ said Gwarube.
She added that the Department of Basic Education has a constitutional duty to provide schooling to all children of school-going age.
“Citizenship or immigration status is not a determining factor in the allocation of school spaces.
“The department continues to uphold the right of every child to access quality education and will ensure that school admissions are administered in accordance with the law, policy, and good governance,” she said.
